My Story

Two pink lines. There they were. My heart was pounding so fast and I nearly fell off the toilet. I walked into the bedroom and said “…erm…its positive?”.

I put it on the counter in the bathroom and climbed into bed for a cuddle. It can’t be right, can it? I’ve read it wrong. Back into the bathroom I go, check the box, check the test – yep. That is 100% a positive pregnancy test. Finally.  We'd been together over 5 years by this time and had been trying to get pregnant since the early days. I'd already been diagnosed with PCOS and by the lack of a monthly period, knew that it'd be very unlikely that I'd have a baby naturally.

Well that's what I was led to believe.

We were referred to the fertility clinic who did all "the tests" on us both and said that there is pretty much ZERO chance of us getting pregnant naturally so we would need to have ICSI (like an IVF 2.0 for those where IVF has a lower chance of working). They wouldn't offer us any of the other procedures that they normally would (Clomid, IUI's etc) or even offer Metformin because they wouldn't work. Devastated was an understatement. I was just starting university, so with this in mind, we agreed to wait until I graduated (those who know me personally - lets just LOL at that for a second! XD ) before going ahead, but something just didn't sit right with me. Doctor Google can be your best friend or your worst enemy, depending on which rabbit hole you want to disappear down, and down said rabbit hole I went.

Fast forward to 2018 - After reading various articles and getting a bit more clued up, I went to the doctor and asked to be put on Metformin. They said no. Their reason? Because I wasn't overweight. I asked for a second opinion and after reeling off all of my reasons why and all of the research I knew, the second doctor got her big medicine book down from shelf, flicked through to Metformin and said "ah yes - although it is for type 2 diabetes, it can be prescribed off-label for PCOS". halle-bloody-luyah! Spoiler alert - It didn't get me pregnant. It did start to give me non ovulating periods and stopped my blood sugar crashing as much.
2020 rocks around. The year that changed the world - and me.

A lot happened between January 2020- June 2020 which includes a 5 month trip to Australia (more about THAT later!), but it really made me re-access what was important in life. The only thing I'd ever wanted was a baby and no doctor had ever taken me seriously or really given a shit - so it was down to me.

My other half was working away in Germany, it was the start of "covid", I was out of uni and no formal work so I drove to Germany in my little corsa, with my bike and my weights, determined to become the healthiest I've ever been.
I did a lot of research, listened to some podcasts, followed advice and my own intuition and BAM! Within 3 months I was pregnant. I could hardly believe it. After 5 and a half years of no success and doctors telling me that I'd never get pregnant without IVF, we'd done it.

I was terrified for most of the pregnancy that it wasn't or something would go wrong, but 9 months later, my precious baby girl was born and the world suddenly felt right. That tiny 6lb baby is now a sassy toddler and I'm going to use the same method and see if I can get pregnant again. I'm going to share everything with you and who knows - maybe it will help you on your journey too, I hope so!

So for now, sit back and have a cuppa.

There's alot of content to get online and my hands can't type fast enough - but I PROMISE its worth the wait!
